Dr. Christopher Liu is a trusted Pain Physician with 20 years of clinical experience. He is currently the Senior Consultant and Medical Director of Alleviate Pain Clinic Singapore. Dr. Liu completed his medical training at prestigious institutions, including Singapore General Hospital and the University Health Network in Toronto, Canada. He specializes in advanced interventional pain medicine.

Dr. Liu provides comprehensive care for a wide variety of painful conditions. He regularly treats patients suffering from spine, joint and muscle disorders, severe nerve pain, headaches and facial pain.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Liu has a highly active academic career. He has published close to forty research articles and authored multiple book chapters. He also helps shape the field of pain management through active roles in professional societies, including the American Interventional Headache Society and ASRA Pain Medicine. He is also the Pain Section Editor for the Royal College of Anaesthetist's flagship journal, BJA Education.

This includes a detailed review of your medical history, physical examination, and, where appropriate, an immediate in-clinic ultrasound assessment to examine soft tissues, nerves, and joints in real time. If prior MRIs or X-rays are available, Dr. Liu will review them with you to pinpoint the "pain generator." Based on this, a personalized, step-by-step non-surgical treatment plan is developed.

Do I need a referral before booking an appointment with Dr. Christopher Liu?

No, a doctor’s referral is generally not required to schedule a direct consultation.

What conditions are treated by Dr Christopher Liu

Dr. Christopher Liu specializes in non-surgical, image-guided treatment for a wide range of acute and chronic pain conditions. His expertise includes spine and nerve pain (back/neck pain, sciatica, slipped discs, radiculopathy), musculoskeletal disorders (frozen shoulder, knee osteoarthritis, sports injuries), headache and facial pain (cervicogenic headaches, occipital neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia), and neuropathic or persistent post-surgical pain.

Can Spine Injections be done on the same day?

Some types of injection (eg sacroiliac joint injection) can be done as a clinic procedure. However, may procedure related to the spine requires the use of a X-rays. For this reason, these are usually performed on a later date in a day procedure suite.

Can Frozen Shoulder Injections be done on the same day?

Yes. For patients who are using cash or medisave to pay for their shoulder injections, it can frequently be done on the same day as your consultation in our procedure suite. For patients who are utilizing insurance, you may choose to pay out of pocket first and have it done on the same day, or defer the procedure until a letter of guarantee has been obtained from your insurer. Our staff can help you to address claims issues.

Does Dr Christopher Liu manage complex headaches?

Yes. Dr Christopher Liu is a headache specialist and a member of the American Interventional Headache Society.
